Increase productivity and safety on the jobsite with the BTE Hi-Rail Skid Steer (HRSS). The HRSS is specially engineered by BTE to perform numerous tasks, from bridges to rail yards, maintenance to new construction. Featuring six BTE attachments, the HRSS is ready to take on any job. With the BTE Bridge Drill attachment, one operator can simultaneously drill holes in bridge timbers for J-Hook and lag screw installation, replacing the need for drilling holes by hand. The BTE E-Clip Applicator and the BTE Safelock Clip Applicator attachments safely apply and remove four clips simultaneously on automated cycles. The BTE Trak Spyder Tool Carrier attachment can carry four hydraulic hand tools at once, and features a Hose Containment system to eliminate tripping hazards. The BTE Rail Saw attachment cuts through rail in under a minute, and the saw guard contains sparks. The newest attachment is the BTE Spike Puller, which enables the HRSS to pull two spikes at once on an automated system. To further increase functionality, the HRSS can also use traditional Skid Steer attachments. To talk with a BTE sales engineer about a Hi-Rail Skid Steer, call 636-937-0505 today!
The Ballast Tools Equipment booth at Railway Interchange last week drew attendees in from across the room, as the huge images of the BTE-325 Hi-Rail Excavator and the BTE Hi-Rail Skid Steer, as well as the large television displays garnered attention. Sales Engineer Matt Weyand said the BTE Skid Steer was “the belle of the ball”, attracting attendees in droves. The BTE team was busy, as a constant flow of potential and current customers stopped by to see BTE’s latest innovations. Check out www.btequip.com or call 636-937-0505 to see what’s new with BTE.
Ballast Tools Equipment is known for its innovative hi-rail equipment and machines, but in Shelocta, Pennsylvania recently, a BTE-323 excavator could be found in the woods and pastures. The BTE-323, fixed with the BTE Mulcher attachment, is helping clear the way for a Class I railroad to rehabilitate an abandoned railway. The abandoned rail spur runs to a coal facility, and the railroad is taking the initial steps toward getting the 6-mile line into tiptop shape again. Once the line is ready, the railroad plans to run trains and start generating valuable coal revenue.
Ballast Tools Equipment has the machines for bridge maintenance. The BTE-308E2 Bridge Excavator provides a fast and safe platform for handling many bridge maintenance tasks. The Bridge Excavator is equipped with innovative Roller Rail Clamps to keep the machine secured to the rails during bridge work. It also features a unique Track Jack system that allows the operator to jack the rails up off the ties, all from the safety of the operator’s cab. BTE’s proprietary PLC control system gives an increased level of safety to operators while performing necessary bridge maintenance tasks. The Bridge Excavator quickly removes and inserts bridge ties, walkway ties, and caps. It replaces bridge ties up to 7x times faster than manual methods, and features a full line of available attachments, including tie head, bolt biter, and tamper. Ballast Tools Equipment is ready for bridge maintenance projects, no matter the size. BTE offers bridge stabilizers for both timber and steel decks. The Bridge Stabilizer is an extremely effective tool for maintaining rail gauge and bridge alignment during the tie change-out process. The insulated gauge rod maintains proper rail gauge while machines are working on the rail. The scissor-style center frame can open and close as needed to accommodate different widths of stringer boards. The scissor frame’s extra-long design on the Timber Deck Bridge Rail Stabilizer allows the frame to slide up and down with the rails during the jacking process. The Steel Deck Bridge Rail Stabilizer features lower adjustable clamps that attach securely to the top flange of the bridge girders. The Bridge Stabilizer saves time by eliminating the need to realign the deck, all while providing an increased level of safety for the equipment operators during bridge maintenance operations. Ballast Tools Equipment (BTE) has a tie handler to fit all of your rail maintenance needs. BTE’s lineup consists of handlers capable of moving up to seven ties at a time. The Four-Tie Concrete Tie Unloader, or Tie Dragon, is ideal for smaller machines. The one pictured is heading out to a customer to be placed on an M320F wheeled excavator. The four-tie handler/spacer weighs only 4,700 pounds. It’s equipped to handle and space concrete ties efficiently, with the ability to grab the ties from the very ends of a bulkhead flat car and grab ties out of a gondola car. As with all of the BTE Tie Dragons, it requires rotation for use, and can be paired with a Rototilt attachment from BTE. BTE’s assortment of tie handlers all feature tough urethane gripper pads to securely hold the ties in place without chipping or cracking them, saving the ties from damage. To see how a BTE Tie Dragon can increase your productivity, contact BTE today!
Ballast Tools Equipment Account Manager Rick Hill recently visited a customer who had purchased three backhoes. One contractor in California wanted a quicker, easier way to replace concrete ties. In the U.S. alone, major railroads replaced a total of 15,063,539 ties in 2011. The more quickly this can be done, the better.
